Can we still talk about Harry Potter? He may not have the #1 movie in America anymore but the first part of "Deathly Hallows" is still going strong and I keep finding entertaining videos related to the series. Today's comes via PopSugarTV and is a sort of G-rated accompaniment to the previously showcased "X-rated" montage. Where that video suggested a lot of homo- and auto-erotic activity going on in the "Harry Potter" franchise, this collects all the true awkward moments. Most if not all still have to do with sex, in a way, yet it's focused on innocent aspects of adolescent crushes and the graceless handling of such by Harry and Ron in particular. Still, there is that creepy sequence with a naked, bathing Potter being harassed by the voyeuristic phantom Moaning Myrtle (pictured above).
With risk of sounding like a broken record, I'll say once again that the best thing about the "Harry Potter" movies is how they deal with these awkward situations and overall function as fantastical versions of the coming of age genre. This is the reason I continue to favor "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," in spite of some bad special effects. I don't know if it's that Mike Newell had the best sense of this side of the series or if this episode simply involved and represented that prime transitional age for the Hogwarts students more than the others. I do know that it's less interesting to see Harry confidently kiss Ginny in "Deathly Hallows" and I definitely didn't need to see Ron's sexual frustrations manifested in a jealousy-fueled projection of Harry and Hermione getting it on.
