Extracting Dollars from Content A Streaming Media Europe 2000 panel session on revenue generating content business models revealed some compelling advice. By Greg Frame One of the biggest questions asked by attendees and exhibitors at Streaming Media Europe 2000 this week is “how can we make streaming content pay?” Not only content producers, but also the suppliers of production tools and hosting, encoding and delivery services are concerned about how streaming content will ultimately draw substantial revenue. Content business models based purely on banner and pop-up advertising are going quickly out of style, as they have failed to produce meaningful revenue, panelists said. “Advertising is the bottleneck,” said Steve Rosenbaum, president and CEO of CameraPlanet.com and BNNtv.com. When are you going to address the New York Observer article? Why do you constantly tattle on about Tivo, Doc’s and all that boring crap when all we want to hear about is your bitch slapping festival with Carlos and how Camera Planet went belly up? Come on dude you used to be a big proponent of free speech and honesty back in the day, let’s get some on this blog. Did Carlos break your heart? Why did Camera Planet close? Was it because you pissed all the clients off?
