In an effort to champion diverse voices and perspectives spanning film, broadcast, cable and digital, 21st Century Fox and Fox Audience Strategy has just announced the launch of the Fox Global Directors Initiative.
The multi-year Initiative will leverage the expertise and commitment of the Company’s leadership and creative talent across its entertainment businesses, including Twentieth Century Fox Television, FX, Fox Broadcasting Company, Twentieth Century Fox Film, Fox International Channels, and many of its international entertainment businesses, to select and mentor fellows from a vast and diverse pool of talent. The Initiative will focus on cultivating emerging and established directors and amplifying female perspectives across features and episodic television.
“To connect with viewers today, we need stories that represent the amazing range of experiences and voices in the real world. Along with writers, the vision of directors is key as they obviously bring those stories to life through their own lens,” said Joe Earley, Chief Operating Officer, Fox Broadcasting Company. “We are excited to be a part of the positive work being done to elevate a more diverse range of directing talent with the launch of Fox’s Global Directors Initiative.”
In its inaugural year, the Fox Global Directors Initiative will partner with a wide range of creative and advocacy organizations as well as with 21st Century Fox’s entertainment businesses, to source talent of diverse backgrounds, visions and perspectives. 20 participants will be afforded the opportunity to further develop their skills and professional contacts. The 10-month program will commence with an intensive, five-week Fox Directors Lab led by rotating mentors from the Company’s entertainment businesses as well as affiliated episodic and film directors. Five finalists will be selected to advance through the remainder of the Initiative as Fox Director Fellows on current television and film productions. The Initiative will culminate with each of the five Fox Director Fellows receiving production support and funding for a Fox-branded short.
“This initiative is an incredible opportunity for Fox and the creative community to come together on a global basis and create something extraordinary,” said Nicole A. Bernard, Executive Vice President, Fox Audience Strategy, The Fox Group. “The partnership with 21st Century Fox and the cross-divisional enthusiasm to launch this initiative speak to our commitment to drive industry change and we hope that stellar creative arts organizations across the globe will be equally excited to join us.”
