Russia’s Roskino / SEF – formerly known as Sovexportfilm – will set up business, and open a full time office, in the USA.  Recently, while attending the Berlinale European Film Market, the company announced, via Roskino / SEF CEO Catherine Mtsitouridze and US based Commissioner (and longtime film biz Senior Executive) Eleonora Granata, that the new Russian Film Commission will be looking to build relationships with US distributors for Russian films and to promote Russia as a filming location and a strong partner for US international co- productions.  Prominent LA based Russian journalist (and Board Member of ‘The Golden Globes’ Award Ceremony for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association) Sergei Rakhlin will be Director of the Russian Film Commission Office.

Cinando launched its new interface this Berlin. It's cleaner and yet more comprehensive with a top menu for personal items econd set of tabs closer into the main page related to the database itself, four spaces to put your own company more actively "in the mix", more visible news, more visible films available for screening online and, unique to Cinando, an attendance list for festivals.

This Berlinale I was quick to visit Farabi Cinema Foundation, the Iranian government's consistent source of films at Berlin and Cannes. I asked for news of the industry's friend Katayoon Shabi of Sheherazad Media International whose arrest in September last year with five other filmmakers was reported in N.Y. Times. Payvand Iran News reports on what the Iranian deputy culture minister for cinematic affairs has to say about "Nader and Simin, a Separation" as a possible Oscar nominee in the Best Foreign Language Films category and what it would say about U.S. Iranian politics.
