Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf is to direct the official trailer for this year’s Green Film Festival in Seoul (GFFIS).

Makhmalbaf is considered to be the most important figure in Iran’s New wave. He was involved in anti-government movements in his younger days and has consistently shown a sharp yet warm attitude towards humans and society in his works. He was the recipient of the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award at the 8th Busan Film Festival and also made a cameo appearance in the short film Jury directed by KIM Dong-ho, the Honorary Festival Director of BIFF.

It is the first time for Makhmalbaf to work with GFFIS and he said, “I’m planning to make the trailer that stresses the meaning of the GFFIS’ tenth anniversary and depicts the beautiful coexistence of environment and humans.”

There is also added focus on the trailer as his son Maysem is to appear in it. The official trailer for GFFIS will be first unveiled at the press conference on April 16th. The 10th GFFIS will open its eight-day festival at Theater CGV Yongsan in Seoul, on May 9th and go on until the 16th.
