Set against the backdrop of a persistent educational achievement gap that dramatically affects African-American boys at all socioeconomic levels across the country, American Promise puts a face to the unique social and emotional needs of these boys and poignantly calls into question the commonly held assumptions about access, resources and what really influences academic performance. This intimate documentary follows the 12-year journey of two African-American families pursuing the promise of opportunity through the education of their sons.
