EFM

This is the EFM Market, "at a glance". All of the international sales agents and national film promotion agencies...except for the larger companies which are behind closed doors at the Ritz Carlton and Hyatt Hotels are here in Berlin, waiting for you to come by with your pitch. The hard part is narrowing down to which ones to go to. We do that....

The Market here is really huge, second or third in size and organization as it relates to Cannes and the AFM.  With 400 films in the festival and 1,100 films screening in the market and more than 700 market premieres,16,000 industry visitors, 4,000 journalists from 130 countries, selling more than 375,000 tickets to the public, with side events Meet the Docs, German Cinema, Berlinale Talents and its international outreach, CoProduction Market, Books to Film, World Cinema Fund, American Indies in Berlin hosted by IFP and Sundance, Industry Debates...wow!!  See more at www.Berlinale.de and www.EFM-Berlinale.de.

How does this compare to Cannes's 11,770 participants, 1,920 buyers, 400 exhibitors, 1,460 screenings, 150 films in the festival, 2,500 finished films combined with film projects, Shorts Film Corner, Producers Network, Producers Workshop, The Docs Corner, Transmedia Corner, and the international reach of its Market and Producer Network?  And how does it compare to Toronto's 4,743 industry delegates from over 80 countires and its 45+ film sales, or AFM's 8,000+ industry leaders from over 70 countries including acquisition and development executives, agents, attorneys, directors, distributors, festival directors, financiers, film commissioners, producers, writers, the world’s press--  all those who provide services to the motion picture industry? In just eight days, more than $800 million in deals are sealed — on both completed films and those in every stage of development and production, 700 screenings of approximately 400 films - 28 new films every two hours - the majority of them world or U.S. premieres. Titles range from big budget blockbusters that will be released by the major studios in the U.S., to lower budget art and genre films recognized at international film festivals, all destined for theaters and television around the world, and the industry's largest Conference Series...

It gives an idea of the scope of activity tens of thousands of films, hundreds of millions of dollars total in deals --- a $3 billion business year round on the international independent film circuit.

This is about the buying and selling of films of all sorts.

The next big one of these international markets is Cannes May 14 -23, 2014.  Be there!
