During the festival there is a documentary film workshop, where experienced documentary filmmakers share the knowledge of how to make documentaries and DOKU talks about the future of documentary films and festival developments, supported by Media Desk Slovenia. There is also DOKU beach by the river Drava, DOKU parties and lots of programs happening with local cooperative organizations.

Maribor is in Slovenia, a country with 2 million people. Slovenia is a green country, more than 60% is covered with forests, but you can also find the sea (48 km of beach) and mountains for hiking (Triglav 2864 m). This new festival is starting by presenting national documentary productions, but it has the intention to develop into an international documentary film festival.
