Paulina Garcia in 'Gloria'

Toronto Film Fest Programmer Diana Sanchez’s count of Latino films in the festival was 16. Of these, 5 are by women; 30% is a strong number. Chile and Venezuela are strong with year with two films each.  Mexico has 4 when coproductions are included. Diana says that might have chosen 10 had she been able.  She is not counting Gravity by Alfonso Cuaron as a Latino film but as a U.S. film. Costa Rica is making a showing with All About the Feathers and Central America is making more movies. There is lots of industry buzz coming from the good pictures from Brazil like The Wolf Behind the Door from Sao Paolo production company Guillane Filmes.

Watch for interviews with Marcela Said the director of The Summer of the Flying Fish and Sebastian Lelio, the director of Gloria, which was recently selected as Chile's Official Academy Awards Submission, and the star of his film Paulina García.
