From its inception and through the first three full festival cycles, the Napa Valley Film Festival (NVFF) has developed a valued Artists-in-Residence Program. The centerpiece of the program is a series of Master Classes and one-on-one meetings during which the experienced filmmakers and industry executives serving as faculty provide career insights and guidance and a whole new array of connections. NVFF collaborates with the exquisite luxury resort Meadowood Napa Valley (“Meadowood”) to provide support, resources, and access for upcoming independent filmmakers. Under the auspices of the Artists-in-Residence Program, Meadowood has provided luxurious lodging for the writer-directors in NVFF’s narrative features competition, as well as for the faculty. Meadowood also provides cash sponsorship enabling NVFF to present a check for $10,000 to the filmmaker whose film is selected by NVFF’s jury as Best Narrative Feature Film.
Beginning with the fourth annual NVFF this November 12 - 16, 2014, the size and scope of the program will double by including the directors in NVFF’s Documentary Features competition. The documentary filmmakers will be provided the same set of experiences and will similarly be vying for a top cash prize of $10,000, again provided by Meadowood Napa Valley. Combined, this is an unprecedented program and signifies an incredible contribution to filmmakers and to the festival on the part of one of the world’s most beautiful resorts.
NVFF’s Artists-in-Residence Program is a unique show of support for independent filmmakers and a rare opportunity to experience one-on-one Master Class series, a chance to win $10,000 all while staying at the luxurious Meadowood Napa Valley. Filmmakers can submit films at Withoutabox.com. The final extended submission deadline (for withoutabox.com members only) is June 20th.
