Spitfire Liberator: The Alex Herbst Story.

In addition to US, UK and Canada theatrical, and with momentum from global TV acquisitions via MIP, SSI picks up the rights for Poland and German speaking territories for this feature documentary.

“The original story of this rare WWII hero fighter pilot that escaped Nazi attacks in Poland, was chased incognito to England during the Battle of Britain, to fly Spitfires in the elite UK 303 squadron, escorting B-17 bombers, getting shot down three times, saved American lives, while thought to be deceased, was impossible to resist,” said producer Michael A. Calace.

Director Slawomir Ciok stated, “Alex, now at 94 years old and still going strong, inspired me greatly.  A legendary pilot and renaissance man who was forced out of his home country, lost everything, even his family, yet survived to settle in the US to recover and tell his incredible story, where his aviator spirit still lives on.”
