I want to promote / publicize their 2nd outing later this year but first I want to use this forum to say why I think they at Napa – and events like them worldwide – are so important now.

Variety reports on Morelia Film Festival's ninth edition October 15 - 23. I won't repeat the article here except to cite its place today as an exciting venue (hopefully not too exciting!!) to see new Latino, especially Mexican, films. The artistic director and founder Daniela Michel has quickly brought the festival an international reputation for welcoming filmmakers and their films. "The smartly programmed official selection captures very well the energy and diversity of contemporary Mexican independent film," notes critic and Museum of Moving Image editorial director Dennis Lim.

Deadline October 10: At Tribeca Film Institute grants are available to support exceptional storytellers from the U.S. and around the world. How? Through funding: over a million dollars annually in grants for both narrative and documentary films and new media projects. Through real-world connections: In an era of the easy "Like" we create opportunities for filmmakers to genuinely connect with industry professionals and with each other. Through support: We offer guidance and provide one-on-one assistance through the filmmaking process. Why? Because well-told stories bring communities together. They captivate us, and they have the potential to cross cultural, religious and socioeconomic divides like nothing else.
