This story told by Director Phlippe Mora and musician Harald Grosskopf who met in Berlin in 2009 and, on discovering that their German fathers were on opposite sides in WW2 opens questions regarding the overall public silence of German society about the war period. Only after the youth rebellions, and the emergence of "counterculture" in 1968 did the subject become public and the subject of discussion.

Bill Cunningham New York broke all house records at Film Forum and we’re still playing in 3 theatres in Manhattan. We’ve already opened in 30 cities and it’s doing well everywhere. Our rollout will be in over 200 cities. BCNY appeals to people who love fashion because it’s so much fun to watch and it’s crossing over because audiences are moved and inspired by Bill’s simplicity and humility and passion for his work. He’s a beacon in these cynical times!

As the 2010 Census has predicted, the Latino population has grown to over 30% in San Diego County and is the fast-growing population in U.S.. What better way to CELEBRATE & spotlight this new data & sweeping change in our Country, than at the 2011 San Diego Latino Film Festival in its 18th year. Lisa Franek joined the festival almost straight out of college and has been given such leeway by the San Diego Media Arts Center to create the festival as she sees it and has shaped it into an event that brings out the Latino community in a way that art house theaters showing similar Latino films envy. Plus she gets to travel to the best festivals. We met in San Sebastian, saw each other in Sundance (and the Art House Convergence preceeding it) and will soon see each other again and the closing night gala. Her bosses, Ethan van Thillo the Executive Director of the Media Arts Center, and Patric Stillman, Innovations and Programming Officer must be very enlightened.

Sandi Dubowski is in Sundance co-hosting a Good Pitch Party (see below) and mentions that, "btw, I got a development grant from a new film fund, Catapult for my project and will be holding meetings at Sundance to raise matching funds for my next film, Soul Trainer." Soul Trainer follows the dramatic life story of Amichai Lau-Lavie whose uncle is the former Chief Rabbi of Israel and who is descended from 37 generations of rabbis to King David. Amichai is Jewish royalty, a link in a 5,771 year-old ancient chain, but he is also the creator of a Hasidic female performance character. His Trembling Before G-d and next film, A Jihad for Love dealt with the delicate details of being homosexual or lesbian in strict fundamentalist religions which prohibit non-heterosexual behavior. His life ever since has revolved around workshops around the world dealing with these issues and has moved into other transcultural issues as in Budrus. Trembling Before G-d Jihad for Love Budrus written and directed by Julia Bacha

Rights Round Up Cannes 2010 by International Sales Agent: A-C

One of the most popular reports I publish is the Rights Roundup to show the trade who sold what to whom during the market (Cannes in this case). The ISAs (international sales agents) are all linked to their own websites. I wish all of the distribution companies who pick up the films for their territories (there are about 40 territories) and all the titles were also linked, but I lack the manpower to do the job 100% so only some are linked to their own company websites, or in the case of titles, to IMDbPro Title Pages. This reports allows sales agents to gauge their competitors, see who is buying similar types of films, and it allows buyers (distributors in this case) to see what similar acquisitions are being made by similar companies in other parts of the world and to have instant access to the sellers and buyers or to more details in the titles themselves.
