U.S. IN PROGRESS (former known as Gotham in Progress) is a joint initiative between the American Film Festival in Wroclaw and the Paris Film Festival. The objective of the program is to foster the completion, circulation and distribution of American indie films marked by the stamp of singularity and independence in Europe. The industry event will gather European buyers (distributors, sales agents) in order to expose them to a selection of American independent feature films at the post-production stage. U.S. IN PROGRESS involves two yearly get-togethers at two different festivals (Paris in June and Wroclaw in November).
The call for entries is open from January 20 til March 1st 2012. Application form and Terms and Conditions are enclosed or can be found online (internet links below).
The application requirements for the films are the following:
• American Narrative Feature Films in postproduction are eligible.
• Production Company needs to be US based.
• Films looking for completion money, sales agent or European distribution.
• Films in postproduction when applying, with at least 30 min of the films edited and to reach feature format by March 1st.
• Film with no US or international premiere
• Only one film in postproduction can be submitted per production company.
The event will take form of two days of intense exclusive screenings (behind closed doors, for registered guests only) and one-to-one meetings on June 7-10 2012.
The U.S. filmmakers of 3-5 selected films will be invited to present their projects in the near-to-completion stage (feature length). The organizers offer flights and hotel in Paris.
Around 30 key European buyers will attend as well.
As a bonus to contracts resulting from the presentations and meetings, a jury made of professionals will award one of the selected works in progress. The awarded movie will get post-production and promotion services in kind.
U.S. IN PROGRESS is an initiative by Paris Film Festival, New Horizons Association (organizer of the AFF, and Poland’s largest International Film Festival – New Horizons IFF) and New York and Paris based Black Rabbit Film. It is the first industry event devoted to US-indies in Europe.
The first edition of Paris Film Festival (www.parisfilmfest.fr/en/) is to take place in Paris on June 6-12 2012. The lineup of this first edition will comprise 50 films including : a selection of 15 French and American films not yet released in France, a selection of 15 films submitted for Oscar consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film category, a prestigious premiere every night in collaboration with the U.S. studios and major distribution companies, a tribute to a key figure from the world of cinema: the Weinstein Company’s Harvey Weinstein will be honored by the Paris Film Festival for its first edition.
