Key Newmarket executives Chris Ball left his position as co-chairman of Exclusive and President and co-founder of Newmarket Films and along with Newmarket’s COO Rene Cogan, COO and John Crye, President of Production and Acquisitions, left NIgel Sinclair’s Exclusive to form Wrekin Hill Entertainment, an independently financed production and distribution company. Lionsgate and Wrekin Hill Entertainment have entered into a home entertainment distribution deal including DVD, Blu-ray, digital delivery, and video on demand.
The Newmarket Film label is licensed by Wrekin Hill for use on a non-exclusive basis with other titles slated for release under the Wrekin banner. Newmarket and Wrekin Hill will jointly release select upcoming titles from Exclusive, including Peter Weir’s The Way Back starring Ed Harris and Colin Farrell, and the Spitfire Pictures produced Billy Joel rock documentary The Last Play at Shea and the Newmarket Sundance acquisition Hesher.
Exclusive will continue managing the Newmarket library of approximately 250 pictures. Wrekin Hill plans to acquire and distribute independently made feature films for all platforms and several acquisitions will be announced soon in addition to a home entertainment distribution partnership.
November, 2010: Lionsgate Obtains United States Home Entertainment Distribution Rights For All Upcoming Wrekin Hill Theatrical Titles
SANTA MONICA, CA (November 1, 2010) – LIONSGATE® (NYSE: LGF), the leading next generation studio and Wrekin Hill Entertainment, the newly established distribution company founded by Chris Ball, former Co-Chairman of Exclusive Media Group and President and Co-Founder of Newmarket Films, have announced that they have entered into a home entertainment distribution deal including DVD, Blu-ray, digital delivery, and Video On Demand (VOD). Under the terms of the arrangement, Lionsgate will become the exclusive home entertainment distributor for all Wrekin Hill Entertainment theatrical releases in the United States. The announcement was made by Steve Beeks, President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of Lionsgate, and Chris Ball, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wrekin Hill.
