Rotterdam Film Festival is having a special showing of the films of Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulo and is having issuing a Call To Action!

Join us in condemning the outrageous conviction of the Iranian filmmakers Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof by allowing to have your photo portrait taken!
Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof have been sentenced to six years of imprisonment for, among other things, ‘propaganda against the Islamic Republic’. Furthermore they are not allowed, for twenty years, to make films or write scripts. It is unacceptable that the work of important, humane and committed filmmakers are subject to oppression.

Panahi and Rasoulof have been connected to the IFFR: as filmmaker, producer and jury member.

The photo set travels around several festival locations like de Doelen and the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, from 10 to 12 am and 4 and 6 pm.

The International Film Festival Rotterdam adds free screenings of films by Iranian filmmakers Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof to the festival’s programme. On the festival’s website, the IFFR posts portraits of festival visitors holding name cards of both filmmakers as a protest against their conviction.

Last December, Jafar Panahi and his fellow filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof were sentenced by a Revolutionary Court to six years imprisonment. They were also banned from making films for a period of twenty years(!).

The White Balloon
In the eyes of the Iranian regime, it seems that even an innocent children’s film like The White Balloon, in which a 7-year-old child does everything possible to recover the money to buy a goldfish before New Year, is a threat to the state. In protest at these events, the IFFR is organising a free screening of this charming film, once withdrawn as an Oscar submission by Iran.

White Meadows
In this surreal, poetic drama, the old fisherman Rahmat travels to the salt islands to collect the tears of the inhabitants, in the hope that these tears will one day turn to pearls. The IFFR is organising a free screening with the Global Film Initiative. The White Meadows is part of the Global Lens 20011 series. For further info, see globalfilm.org.
