This speech given by Black Panther Party co-founder Huey Newton on August 15, 1970 was making the rounds on the internet this week and I figured I'd post because it really is a powerful read, whether in light of Obama's recent endorsement of same sex marriage (and the rampant homophobia coming out of some African-American community leaders as a result), or simply to gain perspective on the history of American civil rights battles:

I'm Hayden Wright, a freshly minted college senior and journalist in the Revolution town of Boston, Massachusetts. I hail more formally from Wheeling, West Virginia; the transplant experience often exaggerates my most Southern characteristics. Two weeks after giving us Bess Armstrong/Patty Chase, "Mad Men" threw another beloved guest star bone my way: Rory Gilmore! Or, rather, Alexis Bledel, who I've always hoped would find the roles she deserved post-"Gilmore Girls" (but hasn't), in a meaty little part as another one of Pete's other women. Hopefully both come back, or at least can use this little boost of pop culture resurfacing to get better roles.

In case you haven't been made aware of the grossly underreported (at least outside parts of Canada) ongoings in Quebec the past few months, the university students of the Canadian province have been on strike from attending school to protest proposed tuition hikes. Involving 193,000 students and 171 student associations, it's one of the biggest and longest student protests in Canadian history (if not the biggest and longest), with seemingly daily protests that have seen as many as 250,000 folks taking to the streets of Montreal.
