A Bizarre Window Into French McDonald's Thoughts On Being Out To Your Dad

Obviously not anywhere near the severity of the previous post (and my apologies if the similarity of the titles is disrespectful.. I'm just a sucker for entry-to-entry title connectivity), but: So French McDonalds made a commercial that I guess is supposed to, I don't know, let gay people know its cool to eat at McDonalds and call your boyfriends from said McDonalds (as a friend dubbed the ad: "Super = Guys + Me"). Which is a bizarre marketing tactic in itself (if you're gay and this commercial makes you want to go to McDonalds, do explain). But then the commercial has this very problematic subplot in that the boy's Dad doesn't know he's gay and the boy doesn't appear like he has any plans on telling him. Seriously, French McDonalds, who thought this was a good idea? It's gonna scare little French gays into not coming out to their Papa, piss off older French gays because of you know, the homophobic subtext, and scare away conservative French straights because they'll think this ad is actually pro-gay. Nobody wins!

I agree with you that this ad is awful, but think you're completely misjudging the message. However misguided, the ad is clearly trying to be pro-gay.

and you're being one sided :) which is reasonable enough. McDonald's, I guess, is just being open-minded - calling out homos, gays, etc to be free and comfortable eating in their store :D (& I think you're the only human left not being able to understand that the world has these kind of people :P)

You misjudge the French, to them sex is not a shame. Whilst they may appear homophobic on the surface they are far more relaxed about it than you would imagine.
