“Slumdog Millionaire,” Coming Soon From Warner Independent Pictures!

I know Warner Independent Pictures is now a distant memory, but you’d think someone would take the time to take down the ex-specialty division’s website. Most notably, its rather embarrassing claim that its releasing “Slumdog Millionaire” and that it’s “coming soon”!

The site looks it hasn’t been touched since the May 2008 announcement that WIP was shutting down.

At that point, “Slumdog” was still a Warner Brothers product, but when WB closed its spec division and had to accommodate a bunch of New Line films into its schedule when it folded, “Slumdog” was in limbo. Its incredible to consider now, but it was looking possible that the best picture frontrunner would go direct-to-DVD.  Fox Searchlight ended up entering a joint deal to release the film with WB, and the rest is history.

But either way, you’d think in the nearly nine months that have passed since WIP folded that SOMEONE would have noticed the website…
