Friday numbers suggest “Precious” is almost certain to be joining this list, and the fact that it’s doing so on 18 screens as opposed to the 1-8 screens of the films listed below is truly amazing:

Finally, after five years of showing fairly minimal erosion, the “Saw” series took a 50% sequel to sequel nosedive this weekend, which might mean soon we won’t face Jigsaw and company every single late October.


Not that I should be surprised, but it looks like Paramount has officially turned micro budget horror flick “Paranormal Activity” into a massive success story and perhaps the marketing success story of the year. Look at last night’s numbers:

That should equate to a $6-7 million dollar weekend and a $35,000-$45,000 per-theater average, one of the better averages ever grossed on a film within its screen range. It also means the film will recoup its budget twice over on each individual screen its playing on. That’s pretty incredible.
