Winona Ryder Cast In Aronofsky’s “Swan”

I know things have been a bit Winona-heavy on here lately, but this is big news: Ms. Ryder has been cast in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan”, says /Film.  “Swan” stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as Nina and Lily, battling ballet dancers (who at one point have “ecstasy-induced hungry aggressive angry sex,” which I’m sure will be quite the draw).

/Film says of Ryder’s role:

Ryder will play Beth, Nina’s “sorta friend” who has been the school’s running lead in all the productions, but who is nearing the end of her career. All the dancers are aiming to take her place as Odette, the Swan Queen, in the next big ballet: Swan Lake.

While that doesn’t read like a major character, it’s definitely not a “Star Trek” like cameo either.  Let the comeback begin!?

How Soon Until Paul Haggis Ends Up Face Down In a River?

As much as I am no fan of Mr. Haggis’ work, I have to give severe props to him quitting Scientology over the church’s support of California’s controversial anti-gay ballot initiative Proposition 8.  He’s essentially risking his life to stand up for the gays (I know that sounds overdramatic, but I stand by it)... so I guess in return the gays should probably forgive him for making the film that beat “Brokeback Mountain” at the Oscars.

Read Haggis’ lengthy letter to Scientology representative Tommy Davis after the jump, which was posted on fellow ex-Scientologist Mark Rathbun’s blog.

“Outrage” Premieres on HBO Tonight

Sadly underseen in its theatrical release this Spring, HBO is premiering Kirby Dick’s revelatory and important doc “Outrage” tonight. If you haven’t seen it and give even the slightest about the mass hypocrisy of the US government with regard to gay issues, please watch.

It blows my mind that Charlie Crist is still running for 2010 Republican senate and considered a potential 2012 presidential despite this film making it 100% clear that Crist is a homo.
