Gotham Award Predictions

This afternoon at 1pm EST, indieWIRE will be bringing you the latest regarding IFP’s announcement of the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Award nominations.  But in anticipation, I figured I’d go into predictor mode (‘tis the first nomination announcement of the season, so awards geek hearts go a flutter).  Last year’s nominees were led by Lance Hammer’s “Ballast” with its four nominations, while Courtney Hunt’s “Frozen River,” Charlie Kaufman’s “Synecdoche, New York,” Tom McCarthy’s “The Visitor” and Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” were also among the five best feature candidates.

Here’s my best guess:

Best Feature:
Goodbye Solo
The Hurt Locker
Precious
A Serious Man
Sin Nombre

Best Documentary:
Anvil! The Story of Anvil
The Cove
Every Little Step
Food, Inc.
We Live In Public

Best Cast Ensemble:
Inglourious Basterds
The Messenger
Precious
A Serious Man
A Single Man

Best Breakthrough Director:
Tom Ford, A Single Man
Cary Fukunaga, Sin Nombre
Oren Moverman, The Messenger
Robert Seigel, Big Fan
Scott Teems, That Evening Sun

Best Breakthrough Performance:
Anthony Mackie, The Hurt Locker
Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker
Souleymane Sy Savane, Goodbye Solo
Gabby Sidibe, Precious
Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds
