That post-Oscar lethargy is hard to get over. Especially when you have devoted a very large chunk of your professional time over the past six months to covering the build up. And as per usual (with Oscar at least), the foreplay was better than the predictable, Adam Shankman-shit-show-of-a-climax, and I was left hungover and disillusioned Monday morning... "Was it all worth it? Am I wasting my life caring about this?"
But I've recovered, and am almost relieved my life and this blog can lead an Oscarless existence. I have a few days left in Los Angeles to take in the post-Oscar air (though, honestly the city feels like a giant geographic version of the post-Christmas blues right now) and ready myself for SXSW (my first!!). I've also continued the strange habitation narration of this Los Angeles stint by moving from the West Hollywood Ramada Inn to the rectory of the Anglican Church that's right smack dab in the middle of Hollywood proper. Long story short: Friend's brother's friend is a priest there who has graciously taken me and my friend in to a gorgeous house behind the church complete with two dogs larger than me, a signed portrait of Queen Elizabeth, and an Amy Winehouse poster... So thank you, thank you Matt, Sophie and Father Ian for continuing to make our Craigslist scam turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
And furthermore in that regard, an repeat thank you to Geoff - the complete stranger who read this post and offered up a week at the Ramada on him. I initially entered this situation with a bit caution - reasonable considering the Craigslist aftermath of mistrust - but it truly turned out to be one of the most genuine random acts of kindness I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing and I must shout it out one last time before moving on. Not only did it keep me off the streets, but it also allowed me to sleep under a portrait of Cher for 7 fabulous nights:
