So it may or may not be an annual tradition for me to online gamble on the Oscars. Some years it's resulted in an extra $50 in my pocket... Some years, $1800 (when Tilda Swinton won for best supporting actress). So I figured why not offer a few tips to spread my potential wealth.
I'm not going to tell you where to go specifically just to cover my ass. Just do a little research (google "online gambling" and "Oscars" and then cross check that with googling whether that site is a scam) and you can figure it out quite easily.
It's not exactly the best year for it, as so many of the races have assumed favorites so the odds are pretty bad for most of the likely winners. But theres a few risks you could take that could pay off in spades. Here's four:
Best Actor: Bet on Brad Pitt. Its a huge risk, as he's unlikely to win. But he COULD win and has insanely good odds (I found one for 35/1). And if you bet $100, you could make $3,500. Betting on the more likely Clooney or Dujardin is worthless considering the odds. So if there's anywhere to make money, it's with Pitt.
Best Original Score: Bet on "Hugo." Not as much of a risk as you'd think (it's possible). And I found 15/1 odds, in which $10 could turn into $150.
Best Cinematography: Bet on "The Artist" or "Hugo," either of which could easily beat "The Tree of Life." "Hugo" has best odds.
Best Foreign Language Film: HUGE risk, but we all know the Academy tends to throw out shockers here. "Monsieur Lazhar" gives you fairly remarkable odds on some sites so even a small bet could bring mad cash.
Who knows, this could be you come Sunday night:
