Introducing "Lost Boy" Hayden Wright

Salutations, Lost Boys readers.

I'm Hayden Wright, a freshly minted college senior and journalist in the Revolution town of Boston, Massachusetts. I hail more formally from Wheeling, West Virginia; the transplant experience often exaggerates my most Southern characteristics. For the past nine months I've been fortunate to live in the stodgy and photogenic neighborhood of Beacon Hill, behind the seat of government and around the corner from Sen. John Kerry's doorstep. He has yet to borrow a cup of sugar.

As a student of writing, literature, and publishing, I've dabbled in a variety of forms and occupations. From workshopping creative nonfiction to editing hard news and assisting research, my love of the written word challenges and thrills me unrelentingly. But despite the artsiness of my program, I try to maintain a journalist's outlook on the world. My primary diversions are ethics, media, politics, and culture. "Culture" often sounds like a cop-out, so for me that runs the gamut of sociologizing Madonna's career, monitoring the designer cupcake bubble—it's going to burst very soon—and watching Anderson Cooper giggle.

Food also shapes my point-of-view. I dream of gooey poached eggs and tuna tartare, ripe plums and anything that gives me an excuse to eat crème fraiche. These are things I seek out often, with moderate success in my own kitchen and around Boston. I also indulge my love of art history, especially European Modernism and urban planning. I'm surprised never to have wandered into a moving taxi from gawking at skyscrapers so impertinently.

My fascinations are, like this blog, eclectic, and I hope to carve myself a niche that feels distinct. In my wildest dreams. I'd like to be some combination of David Carr, Ruth Reichl, Joan Didion, and Graydon Carter. For now, I'll try my hand at being a Lost Boy.
