I met Peter on a rain-drenched roadside in the Scottish Highlands as fellow travellers on Mark Cousins and Tilda Swinton's Pilgrimage. Since then we have interviewed Queen Noor of Jordan in Dubai, engaged in controversy-baiting "art photography" at a nudist pond in Berlin, and mistaken Cindy Crawford for a transsexual in London.

London is where I live, and write screenplays then try to get them made. I shot my latest short earlier this year with Anamaria Marinca of 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days; my next is currently in pre-production, with a shoot planned for early next year. You can count on me to whore my wares on these pages, but I also plan to blog on aspects of cinema that don't involve me, for those who can bear such magnanimity.

My favourite film is possibly All About Eve, though generally I object to the obsession with quantifying greatness in cinema. I object to various other aspects of film, often gender related, but if I write about them here I'll try to do so with wit and brio, rather than snot and bile, which would be unpleasant even in blog form.

Before all this I studied languages and literature and film at Cambridge, where I also indulged the university's fetish for ludicrous ceremony by donning a bright red cassock four times a week to sing in a choir. There I made vigorous excavations into my feelings about religion by singing "arseholes" instead of "our souls" in the hymns. As for what happened that time in the nunnery in Peru in Holy Week, I'll have to turn it into a low budget arthouse classic one of these days.

And when I do, you can be sure to read about it here.
