One thing I will quickly noted before I officially get sucked into TIFF coverage is how excited I am for the pretty remarkable presence of queer films and queer filmmakers att his year's Toronto Film Festival. From new films by Bruce La Bruce, John Cameron Mitchell, Gregg Araki, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Francois Ozon, Xavier Dolan, and Dustin Lance Black to the bisexual bounty that is "Black Swan" to a documentary on Yves Saint Laurent... It's really quite amazing (and, yes, intensely male-centric). There's also a slew of great queer short films AND a free screen of amazing iconic Toronto gay film "Outrageous!" next Tuesday. AND there's a bit of a party. Myself and a couple friends decided to put together an event here in Toronto meant to be a celebration of the festival's queer side: STIFF @ TIFF (oh so clever, we). Any of you that happen to be in Toronto, feel free to stop by. It's happening at Wrong Bar (1279 Queen Street West) on the night of Tuesday the 14th. We have a great bunch of local DJs (Shane MacKinnon, Miss Margot, Colin D.) AND special guest DJ John Cameron Mitchell (in town with "Rabbit Hole," one of my most anticipated films of the fest). We also have a 4am liquor license, so please reconsider early press & industry screenings and/or prepare to call in sick to work.
