It's The End of the World As We Know It?

Is this "aflockalypse" inappropriate and traffic/ratings-boosting fear mongering on behalf of the media, or a serious cause for concern? Cause I'm genuinely considering quitting my job and drain my "savings" into excessive partying, purchasing canned goods, and undergoing fitness programs so I can defend myself against apocalyptic anarchy.

On a more serious note, though, I find it really unfortunate that there has been little to no mention of the hundreds of millions of gallons of crude oil that was blown directly into the Gulf Stream less than a year ago. As a friend noted to me earlier today, instead "it's gotta be the fireworks and hypothermia that killed 'em."
