If y’all read my preceding posts about the Nashville Film Festival (NaFF), you already know that it’s one of my favourite film festivals—and that Nashville is one of my favourite cities to visit. Not surprisingly, I’m disheartened that today—Day 5 of the festival—is my last full day here (although I’m sure my liver feels differently, especially after a night of honky tonkin’ on Lower Broadway).
The last four days have been a good ole’ time. There may not be a Diet Coke sampling truck, but there’s no shortage of food and drinks in the festival’s hospitality tent. Also worth noting (in addition to the films, which I will write about in another post), is the live music—both at the aforementioned honky-tonks and at the High Watt Stage at Mercy Lounge, where I saw a killer show featuring musicians from Sironia and I Am Not a Hipster, two feature films screening at NaFF.
Another highlight was the “Evolution of Women Behind the Camera” panel, which included actors-turned-directors and producers Famke Janssen, Carrie Preston, Beth Grant, and Nicole Kidman. Although most of the questions asked by the moderator were repetitive, their answers were insightful and sometimes hilarious—especially whenever Beth Grant responded. If I can figure out how to upload a video, I’ll post one, along with one from the show at Mercy Lounge.
Until I have time to write more, here are a few photos from the past few days, almost all of which are courtesy of the lovely Shelley Justiss, the official festival photographer. (Also, if you happen to be at NaFF and are looking for some film suggetions for today, my picks are Leave It on the Floor, Hollywood to Dollywood, Alps, Affair of the Heart, Pink Ribbons, Inc., The Mulbery Child, Payback and Headshot.)
