A Legitimate Reason To Hate Hilary Swank

I'd always felt kind of guilty for hating Hilary Swank so much. Other than her being an extraordinarily overrated actress who stole Kate Winslet's "Eternal Sunshine" Oscar, there was no real reason. Well, now there is. Made you fade into obscurity quickly and painfully, Ms. Swank, clutching the however many millions of dollars Ramzan Kadyrov put in on your blood covered hands...

R.I.P. My (Third) Blackberry Torch

So last night my third Blackberry Torch is just over a year became no more. On my last night here in New York, I had the pleasure of being pickpocketed at a bar in the East Village (though thankfully only my phone fell victim, which I'll take over a wallet or a passport anyday). This marks my second stolen Torch (the other time I will only say that I was indeed at fault), and frankly the last one. I held out on the iPhone for years with lame excuses like "I like my smartphone simple... I don't need a computer in my hand I spend enough time on my laptop" or "I like supporting Canadian companies!" But it seems like the time has come. In the meantime, though, I'll remain phoneless. Which I've done before, once even for a few weeks... And I always find it to be an interesting experiment that makes it clear how addicted to it I've become. The first day or two I actually get anxious and intensely jealous at the sight of other people on their phones, and constantly check my pocket in case somehow I've overlooked a phone being there a few hundred times. But by day three or four, I feel pretty free and liberated. My hope is that when I finally get the nerve to quit smoking, the process will be similar.

Self-hating drag queen viciously homophobic question dodging "presidency" candidate Michelle Bachmann continues to drive fear into the hearts and souls of all decent Americans:

How in the world did this show get picked up? ABC is channelling Fox circa 1992 in the worst possible way. And the very evident homo/transphobia makes me forget how progressive a network you have been in the past:

Watch Half of Hollywood Whore Themselves Out In The Cringe Worthy Trailer For "New Year's Eve"

A "spin-off" of one of the worst movies of the past decade, "Valentine's Day," the trailer for "New Year's Eve" has hit the interweb, and it looks as desperate and thrown together as one would expect. Half of Hollywood, or, specifically: Ashton Kutcher, Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Hilary Swank, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Sofia Vergara, Julie Andrews, John Lithgow, Jessica Biel, Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sienna Miller, Alyssa Milano, Ryan Seacrest, Jon Bon Jovi, Ice Cube, Josh Duhamel and Greg Kinnear (Pfeiffer, Andrews and De Niro's involvement breaks my heart the most). Between them, the cast has 6 Oscars and 20 Oscar nominations. But for whatever reason, they all thought this was a good idea. And, sadly, it will probably make $150 million dollars. Can't wait for "Columbus Day!" in 2013.

Facebook Censorship and Me

I logged into Facebook this morning to find this fun little message. Likely the result of a Facebook "friend" with no sense of humour reporting the photo (which was staged and taken by my friend Matt and I have no qualms announcing how brilliant I think it is), I quickly screenshot-up the notification and made it my profile picture. I'm playing with the fire of the Facebook gods, I realize, and could be headed for removal. But at least I'd be in good company, and frankly: Maybe it would be a serious blessing in disguise.

Remember When The MTV Movie Awards Weren't Just The "Twilight" Awards?

I used to actually watch the MTV Movie Awards, and genuinely appreciated the sort of cool populism their winners portrayed. Mind you, I was 8 or 9 years old, but the days when "Pulp Fiction," "Menace II Society" and "Seven" would take the top prizes helped make the awards a respectably hip cousin to the regular awards circuit. But like their video award counterpart, the awards have seen a bland and predictable mainstreaming that have essentially turned them into a teen version of the People's Choice Awards. Last night continued this trend, with the "Twilight" series continuing what looks to be a half-decade of dominating all the major categories.

Watch Lady Gaga Be Desperate, Weak and Horribly Annoying In Her New HBO Special

What is wrong with this woman? And why do people continue to idolize her as this "queen of the freaks"? It is clearly feeding her horribly annoying god complex. In this clip from her upcoming HBO special, Gaga comes across as a desperate and needy mess who is psychotically obsessed with her "kingdom of fans."

Stephen Harper Rips Off Tim Pawlenty; Makes Me Shutter In Fear of Canadian Political Apocalypse

Speaking of viral videos that suggest the apocalypse (at least if you're Canadian), here's a clip the Liberal party smartly put together that compares a promotional video by American Tea Partier (and likely 2012 President hopeful) Tim Pawlenty and one Stephen Harper's Conservative party just put out. The latter is blatant rip-off technically (except it looks like it cost about 1/100th of the budget) and thematically, taking a page from bullshit American patriotism propaganda. It scares the shit out of me, especially as Harper looks more or more assured another minority government... and a majority government definitely within reach. Once again, Danish (or any Scandinavian, at this point) person willing to marry me for citizenship, I'm waiting for you to call...
