I rummaged through a few clips from tonight's BAFTAs (which are bizarrely not aired lived even in the UK), and even though I would have LOVED to see Lesley Manville take this prize, Helena Bonham Carter gives a charming little speech when she wins best supporting actress. It's basically the best 3 minutes the entire show has to offer, so I'll spare you the efforts to look further.

"We Were Here" Q&A With David Weissman

For me, one of the standout films at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival was David Weissman's chronicle of the AIDS epidemic "We Were Here." A very specific depiction of the onset of AIDS in America, the film focuses on the stories of five individuals who lived in San Francisco at the time - four gay men and a heterosexual woman who was a nurse in an AIDS ward. Through which, it provides a powerful snapshot of a part of American history that few seem to fully be aware of. Through certainly not the definitive AIDS documentary, Weissman provides an affecting sense of intimacy through focusing on just five people and one city. When you walk out of "We Were Here," you most definitely feel like you were.

Here's some clips from a panel in Sundance earlier this week that examined depictions of queer youth in several of this year's Sundance Film Festival films and expanded on how those stories relate to the recent media attention of suicide and queer youth in crisis. Gregg Araki (Director/Writer, Kaboom), Dee Rees (Director/Writer, Pariah), Erica Dunton (Director/Writer, to.get.her), and Daniel Sladek (Executive Producer, Prayers for Bobby) were all on the panel. Have a watch:

"Take Shelter" Q&A With Jeff Nichols

Definitely one of the frontrunners for the U.S. Dramatic Competition, Jeff Nichols' "Take Shelter" had its second screening in Park City last night and continued to win over audience members. Acquired by Sony Pictures Classics just prior to the fest, Nichols' psychological drama depicts Curtis, a thirtysomething family man who encounters a sudden struggle with mental illness. Starring Michael Shannon (who also starred in Nichols' previous film, "Shotgun Stories") as Curtis and Jessica Chastain (likely one of 2011's big breakouts between this and "The Tree of Life) as his wife, "Shelter" is a haunting and tense portrait of a family unravelling.

Maybe its the fact that I haven't slept in 27 hours and am possibly a little high on vailum while sitting on the floor of Chicago O'Hare waiting for my delayed connecting flight to Salt Lake City, but I found this fake mash up that has Lady Gaga and Britney Spears in a verbal back and forth absolutely hysterical:

I briefly spoke to "Black Swan" director and recent DGA nominee Darren Aronofsky this weekend regarding "Black Swan"'s huge box office success, and figured I'd offer this soundbite on when Mr. Aronofsky first suspected "Swan" might be a success:
