While nothing special relative to Sarah Silverman's brilliant anti-Mitt PSAs, Cher and Kathy Griffin are pretty adorable in this last minute attempt to stop the Republicans:

Alt-J's album "An Awesome Wave" just followed in the footsteps of Pulp, Portishead, PJ Harvey, Antony and the Johnsons, Franz Ferdinand and The xx (among others) to take home this year's Mercury Prize for the year's best album in the UK and Ireland. And deservedly so. I've been obsessed with it since given the introduction back in August, heightened a month by what is clearly never happening again: Seeing them for $12 in a tiny venue in Montreal.

BeThe incredibly powerful and articulated speech that the adorable, brave Lana Wachowski gave earlier this week has been making the rounds, and I figured why not post here in the chance you've missed, because you really, really should not. Her speech is rather unprecendented for a woman in her profession, and she pulls it off so gracefully and thoughtfully, putting the perspective of being a transgendered person out there in a really necessary way.

Though not on the same level as "Lincoln"/New York Film Festival, the London Film Festival did manage a notable "secret screening" with the technical European premiere of David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook."

Speaking of women and 'Saturday Night Live,' I just have to give a shout-out to the primary reason I've continued by tradition of skimming through each episode on Sunday mornings this season: Kate McKinnon.

I'm currently on GMT, so I was asleep when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association made the glorious, glorious announcement that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler would be replacing Ricky Gervais as the hosts of the Golden Globe Awards. Celebration Dance!. The Golden Globes have trumped even the Oscars by picking my essential dream hosts, and for the fourth consecutive year making the GGs the ceremony I'm deep down looking more forward to (though he lost his appeal last year, I thought Gervais was great his first two tries, and considerably more enjoyable than anything the Oscars have managed in recent memory).
