Meet the 2011 Tribeca Filmmakers | "The Bully Project" Director Lee Hirsch
Filmed a while back -- previous to all this MPAA hoo-haa that is hopefully bringing a silver lining in all the attention its giving this important documentary -- I sat down with "Bully" director Lee Hirsch and producer Cynthia Lowen:

As I head to True/False, I thought I'd mention another documentary film festival -- the inaugural Downtown DocFest in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. A hop, skip & a jump from my hometown, the festival is being organized by the lovely Lynn Braun -- who was a pivotal help in Picton Picturefest, a festival I helped put together last year.

Since there's really nothing more to say, I'll cap off awards season with this lovely clip of Meryl Streep backstage after finally winning her third Oscar last night.  An "Iron Lady" fan I was not, but it's impossible to deny the charm, humility and all-around perfection that is Meryl:

In less than 24 hours, it will all be over. The 84th Academy Awards will be a memory and anyone with a vested interest in the award season will  breathe a sigh of relief. Somehow, the 2011-12 awards season seems poised to exceed its predecessor as the most boring, predictable and unrepresentative in recent memory (as already noted time and time again on this blog).

So it may or may not be an annual tradition for me to online gamble on the Oscars. Some years it's resulted in an extra $50 in my pocket... Some years, $1800 (when Tilda Swinton won for best supporting actress).  So I figured why not  offer a few tips to spread my potential wealth.

The 2011 Best Picture Oscar Lineup in Terms of Race, Class, Gender and (Subjectively Speaking) Quality

Yesterday I took on this year's best picture Oscar race, concluding the obvious in its pathetic representation of race, class, gender and (from my own perspective, at least) quality filmmaking. To follow up -- and show in retrospect just how shitty this year's lineup is -- I've done the same for last year's lineup, which relatively looks downright progressive.

As a result of the hoopla that resulted from the LA Times' investigative report on Oscar voters are how insanely white and old and male they are (which though appalling is hardly surprising), I got to thinking about this year's best picture lineup. Yes, we all know how bad most of the movies are, but there perhaps hasn't been as much talk as there should be about another appalling aspect of Oscar, perhaps this year more than ever:
