The Greatest of All The Amazingly Scathing Madonna/"W.E." Soundbites

A quick return to the blog with good reason: I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the remarkably scathing reviews of Madonna's "W.E." out of Venice. So much so that I'm actually more excited to see the film than when I suspected it might be slightly better than mediocre. A camp classic seems born! And no review has made me more certain of this than Shane Danielsen's deliciously mean take here at indieWIRE:

Trent Reznor has tweeted the part of his and Atticus Ross' score from "The Girl WIth The Dragon Tattoo"! And it's a beautiful 7 1/2 minute clip... one far from the late-era Nine Inch Nails sound of their score for "The Social Network" Much more subtle and reminiscent of his "Fragile" days, I gotta say it alone is gonna get me into the theater to see "Tattoo" opening weekend. Listen here.

You can still colour in your own version here, but Feist's October album "Metals" officially has its cover now, and she's also announced a setlist and tour dates... and her first single, "How Come You Never Get To Go There," has leaked! Excited I be.

Last night in Toronto, hundreds of queers gathered for the first annual "Toronto Queer Beer Festival," which I headed into pretty enthusiastically. A festival of alcohol exclusively for queers? Toronto's War on Fun: 878, Fun: 1! Not to mention the kicker: The headliner at the event, which basically saw 100 or so beer vendors surrounding a big stage at Toronto's Canadian National Exhibition grounds, was none other than ACE OF BASE.

So it's been roughly a year since I transitioned from the opinion "why is that guy from Degrassi rapping" to "um... do I kind of love Drake?" And now he has continued his winning streak with me personally via one of two surprisingly mid-tempo tracks he purposely leaked from his fall album "Take Care." Entitled "Marvin's Room" (for reasons I don't quite get: enlighten me), it's smooth, moody, and oddly catchy. Detailing with considerable vulnerability his quest for the girl that got away amidst his growing fame-related hedonism, for the past few days I've grown mildly obsessed with it. And that's despite its genre, as mid tempo R&B generally repels me quite considerably. Here's to Drake, for injecting some serious talent and innovation into mainstream music:
