Somehow topping Neil Patrick Harris's Tony opening for the best performance by a television celebrity at a ceremony to go viral today, Conan O'Brien's commencement speech at Dartmouth College is just as good as everyone says... a hilarious and insightful 23 minutes that will be make you feel sad that your own commencement speech was from an executive producer of "Law & Order: SVU" and you can't even remember it anymore (or maybe that's just me):

In quite the score for Toronto Film Festival hub TIFF Bell Lightbox, Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis reunited with TIFF's Noah Cowan for an on-stage discussion after a 20th anniversary screening of "Thelma & Louise" this Monday. Unfortunately, I wasn't in town for the screening... but some friends that went said it was an absolute hoot. Here's a short clip care of TIFF:

So for the past year or so I've been slowly organizing a little film festival and "cinephile retreat" in small town Canada, the result of being totally blown away by this and wanting to do something similar on my home turf. Basically, I got together with my lifelong BFF Jen (who works at the Toronto Film Festival and who I've literally known since I was a fetus), and we just slowly started putting the pieces together. We picked a gorgeous little town near where the two of us grew up and literally started going door to door hoping to gauge some interest. For the first six months of planning, I genuinely never expected it to work out. But a mix of some grant funding (thanks Ontario Arts Council) and some fabulous enthusiasm from people wanting to help out turned out to be enough to get things off the ground, and now here we are: just one month to go. It has definitely been one of the most fulfilling things I've ever taken on, especially now that things are really coming together. Our full film program is now up, and only July 7th we'll kick off four days of screenings, workshops, parties and merriment amidst what is truly one of the most picturesque communities in Ontario (fyi to those unaware: the festival takes place in Prince Edward County, which is roughly a 2.5 hour drive east of Toronto; and a 4 hour drive west of Montreal... some call it "Ontario's 'Provincetown'" by personally I'd peg it more as a Canadian version of Napa).

There's nothing better...

I've been a very lazy blogger lately, for a variety of reasons but definitely in large part due to the sudden onslaught of warm weather that makes me want to do anything but sit indoors in front of laptop. So it seems appropriate to kick off an attempt at a blogging resurgence with this freshly released video for Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend." I've been a fan of the song since late last year, but this clip reminded me just how much. Robyn deserves to be a superstar, as this deceptively simplistic and oddly graceful ode to being the other woman makes clear. And now its been given a music video, well over a year after the first edition of Robyn's epic "Body Talk" trilogy that the song was a part of started coming out. One long take gives us a video as deceptively simple as the song itself: Robyn basically just dances around (in typically adorable Robyn-style) as the cameras follow her and some lights due some fancy things. But it works perfectly and will hopefully give the singer another shot at a breakout single that brings her further into the limelight she oh so deserves. Last summer, her "Dancing On My Own" was 100% hands down my song of the season (how it wasn't the rest of the worlds is beyond me...), and I vote for "Call Your Girlfriend" to be its predecessor. With Lady Gaga, Beyonce and pretty much everyone else disappointing left and right, give one lady that is a genuine machine of catchy and clever pop her due:
