The Heart's Filthy Lesson
I sometimes tell people that my favourite romantic comedy is The Silence of the Lambs. I say this partly because I’m a smartass, and partly because the very idea of rom-coms makes be break out in hives—though there really is something electric about that single frame in The Silence of the Lambswhen Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling’s fingers touch for a brief, charged moment. So dear reader, you can imagine my trepidation over the arrival of Valentine’s Day, the most saccharine time of the year. I won’t go on a tirade about the backwash of Hallmark’s slop bucket because I don’t want to ruin February 14 for everyone else.
