The Quebec Student Strike Turns 100 Days Old

This was the remarkable scene a few blocks from my apartment earlier today. An estimated 250,000+ people took to the streets (some conservative press underreported "tens of thousands," which is total bullshit) to support the 100th day of the Quebec Student Strike in defiance of the ridiculous Bill 78 -- an emergency law that was passed to essentially make organized protests of over 10 people illegal. It was one of the more awe-inspiring moments of collective action I've ever seen:

It seems that the strike has gained significant momentum in terms of support outside Quebec in the past few week, with international press (or mainstream press in the rest of Canada, which has so far been horribly ignorant to how monumental the strike has really been) finally taking notice. The strike also got shout outs from famed Montrealers Xavier Dolan and Arcade Fire in Cannes and on Saturday Night Live, respectively.  Which hopefully made a few more people take notice.  Because whether you wholly agree with what the strike represents or not (though while I understand criticisms of some of their tactics, how one can argue with cheap post-secondary education is beyond me), what the students of Quebec have done over the past 100 days is an extraordinary thing that you should definitely be aware of.
