In recognition of World AIDS Day, I thought I would post the trailer for 3 Needles – a feature film from 2006 which was written and directed by one of my favourite filmmakers – Thom Fitzgerald (The Hanging Garden, Beefcake). It is a beautiful and deeply affecting film about the AIDS pandemic featuring Shawn Ashmore, Olympia Dukakis, Lucy Liu, Stockard Channing, Chloe Sevigny and Sandra Oh. If you haven't already seen it, I recommend you rent or buy it (or find it online). You can watch the trailer here:
By the way, Thom's new film Cloudburst, which stars Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker as an aging couple who escape from a nursing home in Maine and drive to Nova Scotia on a quest to be legally married, is currently on the film festival circuit (keep an eye out for it!). I was able to see it during the 2011 Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where it won both the Best Film and People’s Choice awards – which was no surprise, since the film is both heartwarming and sidesplitting funny!
Disclaimer: I worked as an associate producer at Thom Fitzgerald's Emotion Pictures in 2006 and 2007. Here's an embarrassing photo of me with the original Lost Boy (Peter), Thom and his producing partner Doug Pettigrew circa that time:
On another note, it has been more than two weeks since my last post. Have you noticed? Probably not! But for those of you who are interested, I do intend to write more regularly very soon (it's been a hectic couple of weeks!). Until then!
