And so while we have reason to be suspicious of the list, and even if it is real, it does contain a note saying that the lineup may gain or lose performers, the list does give much reason for excitement. Anyways...not since Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan and Carole King gathered around the piano for a rendition of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" in 1998 has the DIVAS show, a fundraiser for VH1 Save the Music, been very relevant. The organizers of the show should take the commentary spurred by this released set list as evidence of how to best do Queen Whitney right come December.
Here is the Lost Boys official guide to what's right with the leaked DIVAS set:
Patti LaBelle Takes Us to Church?
There's a little gem on "The Bodyguard" soundtrack that updates the Sunday School classic tune "Jesus Loves Me" for Kevin Costner. If Patti LaBelle would take it on, we'd all be sweating like Lady Marmalade in church.
Beyonce and Lady Gaga Go Disco
In "The Bodyguard," Whitney Houston's club diva brought down the house with "Queen of the Knight." The song, which was nominated for a Worst Original Song Razzie, may just be the perfect opportunity for the duo behind such crazy ass songs as "Telephone" and "Video Phone" to reunite.
Brandy and Monica Put Aside Their Differences for Whitney's Landmark Ballad
I think it's time we got this straight: This one makes me nervous. But hey, it'll bring Monica out of hiding.
Beyonce Does Gay Anthem of the 1990's
Speech. Less. Before Lady Gaga monopolized the gay anthem, Whitney Houston joined The Weather Girls and Gaynor in the gay anthem canon with her 1998 remix to "It's Not Right But It's Okay," a song that Lady B needs to do yesterday.
A Mega-Watt Version of "I'm Every Woman"
"A Natural Woman" it is not, but "I'm Every Woman," the Chaka Khan song that Whitney pumped up for "The Bodyguard" certainly deserves the star-studded treatment that it would get were Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Brandy, Dionne Warwick, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Monica, Patti Labelle, P!nk, and (surprise!) Chaka Khan to sing it.
