A pair of upcoming tentpoles have found writers to try and Rumpelstilskin these “ideas” into box office gold. First off, Gareth Edwards' “Godzilla” remake Legendary Pictures has just hired Max Borenstein to pen the script for the upcoming blockbuster movie.

Believe it or not, it's going to be a staggering three months until you see the next film starring Jason Statham. The actor, who brought us no less than three movies in 2011 -- "The Mechanic," "Blitz," "Killer Elite" (okay, he did a voice in "Gnomeo & Juliet" too) -- is taking a brief respite from the multiplex.

One of the most acclaimed documentary films of the year, and decidedly a Playlist team favorite, "Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest,” Michael Rapaport's directorial debut, has had a stellar reception from audiences and critics. A thorough, honest and emotionally piercing look at the history and troubles of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest, the documentary is an outstanding achievement that captures a crucial piece of hip-hop history. When we saw the film at the Tribeca Film Festival this past spring, we called it "utterly engaging, completely infectious enough to bring out a sense of giddyness in you, raw and thrilling." When Q-Tip, arguably the leader of the group, criticized the documentary on Twitter, we tracked the beef in an extensive article and a few weeks later would sit down with Rapaport for an interview that illuminated his feelings on the criticisms and more.

With Sony enduring a brutal year due to the painful birth of "Men In Black 3," which saw a slew of writers come and go from the project, extensive production delays, and a skyrocketing budget that is expected to be running well north of $200 million dollars aleady, they are not eager to make that same mistake twice. Well, that didn't take long. Less than 48 hours after Brett Ratner "banged" his way out of producing the Oscars, with host Eddie Murphy following suit, Brian Grazer has stepped in to take control and, together with the Academy, they've invested in the most safe, parent-friendly man to lead the show possible: Billy Crystal.

It looks Reese Witherspoon is mixing it up, as the actress usually does. Earlier this year she starred in the period romancer "Water For Elephants" with Robert Pattinson, and in early 2012 Tom Hardy and Chris Pine will battle over her in McG's "This Means War." This fall she spent time hanging around indie filmmaking rising star Jeff Nichols, starring in his next effort, "Mud," and after that she's pairing up with a respected helmer for a new comedy.
