Yep, it's one of those projects. You know, the kind of that spend years in development with a variety of filmmakers (in this case Robert Schewentke and Marcus Nispel) coming and going, but with no actual movement happening. Such is the case of "The Last Voyage Of Demeter" that most recently had David Slade set to direct with Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley in the lead roles. Not bad right? But even as far back as a year ago, Rapace was casting doubt on whether or not she would be in it and word pretty much went quiet. Alas, it's back to the drawing board.

With a role in David Cronenberg's upcoming freak fest "Cosmopolis," Robert Pattinson continues to take on parts that...well, that are as far away from Edward in the "Twilight" movies as possible. And so to that end, last week he signed up to star in the thriller "Mission: Blacklist," and in case you missed the news, he'll be the guy hunting down Saddam Hussein.

Director Lisa Cholodenko recently sat down with The Playlist moments before her panel with fellow alum Shari Springer Berman and Nicole Holofcener at the Columbia University Film Festival this week to debate the glass ceiling and how it affects making their films -- during the course of which, Cholodenko let slip a couple of her yet-to-be announced projects among her other updates.

Improbable, fantastical and romantic, "Ruby Sparks" is the belated follow-up to Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris' four-time Oscar-nominated debut, "Little Miss Sunshine." It's been six years since that film -- the duo has been stuck in multi-project development hell -- and they've returned with a story that's about a novelist struggling with writer's block who finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character he thinks will love him, then actually, somehow, inexplicably willing her into existence.

Yesterday we said that Rachel McAdams doesn't always get the kinds of projects that match her skills, and the same could apply to Michelle Monaghan. The actress, who was excellent in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "Gone Baby Gone," hasn't really stood out in much since, fading to the background or being wasted in fare like "Made Of Honor," "Eagle Eye" and "The Heartbreak Kid." But she does seem like to genre-y action pieces (such as "Source Code") as she's lined up another one.

Granted, the premise -- some old dudes have a bachelor party in Las Vegas -- sounds like it was pitched by a douchebag exec during a studio meeting (and who knows, maybe it was), but if it gives us the opportunity to see Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro spar, who are we to quibble?

So “The Avengers” knocked it out of the park, huh? With a $600 million intake worldwide and lots and lots of good reviews, Joss Whedon and the folks over at Marvel can probably even one-up James Cameron at the next Masters of the Hollywood Universe fete. (That sounds fun, doesn’t it? I’d go to a party like that.) This weekend is a little smaller, but looking good nonetheless. A number of foreign films that have done well in the festival circuit, and the latest eyefeast from Burton and Co. hit theaters today, providing quite a lot of competition – if not dazzling CGI and budget – for the massive blockbuster winner of last week. Let’s see how they measure up.

Oh Good, There's More 'Prometheus' Images Because We Haven't Had Enough Already

Well, 20th Century Fox certainly aren't changing up the game plan too much. Just like they did last year, with their summer tentpole "X-Men: First Class," the studio is going to make sure that before June arrives we get at least a few hundred images, probably a dozen clips and god knows what else for "Prometheus." And yeah, it drives us fucking bananas but here we are posting about it. The irony is rich, we know.

Review: 'The Tortured' Might As Well Describe The Audience For Twisted Pictures' Latest

For most viewers, there's no way to take a look at that Twisted Pictures logo and feel at ease. Sure, it's intimidating all on it's own -- dark lowercase lettering separated by barbed-wire, inky shadows. But it's an entirely different sort of fear that emerges from the house that James Wan built. The company piggybacked off three "Saw" films before it decided to expand into other hoary, blood-soaked horror cheapies, most of them in the direct-to-video realm. With "Saw" over, however, Twisted Pictures still has a few leftovers from the torture porn trend, and one is 2010's "The Tortured," currently, finally receiving a VOD release.

Luke Wilson, Zachary Quinto, Topher Grace, Johnny Galecki and Karyn Kusama...one of these people doesn't quite seem to belong (guess who?) but they are all banding together to make "Invitation."
