Say what you will about James Wan and Oren Peli, but with "Saw" and "Paranormal Activity" under their respective belts, it's hard to deny that they have been a major force in Hollywood, helping to shape much of the direction of contemporary horror films. So when the two decided to team on "Insidious" -- with Wan directing from a script by "Saw" co-creator Leigh Whannel and Peli producing -- curiosity about what they would conjure ran high. So who knew that it would be an old school haunted house flick in the vein of "Poltergeist"?

In one unattainable and colossally perfect universe, "Dogtooth" won the best Foreign Oscar statue. Our current universe is admittedly less deranged than that, with the Academy generally awarding whichever non-U.S. movie hits all the cliché buttons and shies away from originality. Thankfully, the 2010 winner "In A Better World" breaks their usual reductive routine. Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier's (the Academy Award nominated "After the Wedding," "Things We Lost In The Fire") latest focuses on a friendship between two troubled boys and is told in a distant, completely unnerving way. Sure, it doesn't feature a woman being repeatedly beaten with a VHS tape of "Rocky" -- which, spoiler, happens in Yorgos Lanthimos' "Dogtooth" -- but you can't always get what you want.

Reveals His Next Project 'Wrong' Is About A Missing Dog But He'd Rather Not Try And Pitch ItThere are few films we can think of as singularly weird as "Rubber." The story, following a vindictive, lovelorn tire that goes on a killing rampage in a small Southwestern town, is strange and oddly affecting – a tale of loneliness, where the protagonist just happens to be a rubber wheel. And this is before you start talking about the audience who is "watching" the movie unfold (and getting picked off one by one). Hearing the premise for "Rubber," your first thought is probably, "Who the hell came up with this?" Well, that'd be French filmmaker and musician Quentin Dupieux. He talked to us about the origins of the film, his approach to the score (which he co-composed with Justice's Gaspard Auge), and what's next.

Filmmaker Says Batman & Superman WILL Appear In New 'JLA' FilmNewly installed as the head of Warner Bros., Jeff Robinov has wasted no time in getting the studio's priorities straight for the next few years and they plan on diving head first into the comic properties they have, and no wonder. With Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" marking the end of a chapter (though he will produce the eventual reboot), WB already has "Green Lantern" hitting this summer, with "The Flash" and "Wonder Woman" films in development. But perhaps the biggest news to emerge in the last few days is that a "Justice League" movie is in the works to hit screens in 2013 -- just a year after Zack Snyder and Nolan bow their Superman and Batman films. It's an ambitious move with a lot of questions still to be answered. But Snyder has cleared up the biggest query around the film so far: it will be separate from the worlds he and Nolan will have created.

We'll give credit where credit is due. We didn't think producer Marc Fiore could pull it off. But lo and behold, he's landed a big actor to take on the lead role in the upcoming saga "Gotti: Three Generations."

Warner Bros. has a thing for crime pics and it's easy to see why. They got Oscar gold for "The Departed" and Ben Affleck's "The Town" was a surprising smash hit at the box office so no wonder they want to feed audience hunger for pics focusing on the seedy criminal underbelly. Ruben Fleischer's "Tales From The Gangster Squad" is already heating up with offers out to Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling and now another gangland pic is building steam.

Filmmaker Gives More Details On The Leni Riefenstahl Project He Deep-SixedLate last year we reported that Steven Soderbergh's spy action thriller "Haywire," starring MMA fighter and non-actor Gina Carano, was set to bow on April 22. In January, Soderbergh himself confirmed that date, but obviously if you've been paying close attention, you know that's not happening.

There is no doubt that "Tales From The Gangster Squad" is very, very high on the priority list at Warner Bros. With names like Darren Aronofsky, Paul Greengrass, Francis Lawrence, Martin Campbell, Greg Berlanti, Scott Cooper and Jose Padilha all being tossed around at various points to direct the film, "Zombieland" helmer Ruben Fleischer landed the gig late last year. But WB isn't done yet trying to lure top talent to their crimeland pic.

With a release date announced for the "Total Recall" reboot about a month ago, there has been little word on the project other than Colin Farrell starring in the thing with Len Wiseman directing. Well, with shooting gearing up start this spring, it looks like the cast is starting to get locked in.
