We're not sure that there's a single franchise out there that's cheaper and more joyless than "Resident Evil." The video-game adaptation is now a decade, and four entries, old, and has continued to add literally nothing to the zombie genre, the action movie genre and the cinematic artform in general. But with the last film, "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," proving by far the biggest entry in the series, taking nearly $300 million worldwide, there's no end in sight, and original helmer Paul W.S. Anderson, who also directed the fourth entry, is returning to the series for "Resident Evil: Retribution," on which shooting is imminent, ahead of a release a year from now.

Review: A Brooding, Wooden Taylor Lautner Muddles His Way Through The Nonsensical 'Abduction'

In the future (it’s closer than you think!), celebrities will be an even bigger part of our society. While the pool of “famous people” will expand beyond movie stars, politicians and random public figures, we’ll find ourselves consumed by the public’s thirst for all things mega-famous. In this future, somewhere, someone will write a massive tome dedicated to the forehead of Taylor Lautner. Like the Monolith in “2001: A Space Odyssey,” it is massive, and says everything and nothing. It sits on top of the scrunched up Zardoz-of-a-face that is this curious manchild, at once Cro-Magnon and, yet, every bit representative of his teenage years. It's going to be a helluva book.

Even though it stirred up a minor controversy no one really cared about when it was was more or less banned in the U.K., Tom Six's probably unnecessary "The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence)" is gearing up to premiere tonight at Fantasic Fest and soon enough we'll hear if the follow-up was a worthwhile endeavor.

Chris Evans Talks Trying To Honor The Memory Of An Unlikeable Lawyer In 'Puncture'

In “Puncture,” Chris Evans plays Mike Weiss, the real-life lawyer who, along with Paul Danzinger, took on the medical industry. Hospital supply was, and remains, the major roadblock restricting the one-stick needle, a plastic, disposable syringe that is much cheaper and cost-effective than its dangerous counterpart. While the subject matter makes “Puncture” an “issue” movie, it’s Evans’ portrayal of Weiss that has audiences buzzing.

Well, "Killer Elite" opens tomorrow so we suppose this is one last ditch effort to get dudes interested in seeing Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro wasting some bodies rather than watching Jonah Hill work some Excel spreadsheets in "Moneyball" (we kid, the movie is great, go see it folks).

Well, there's only a handful of movies that are left to weigh in on the awards season race. "J. Edgar" and "Young Adult" both bowed out of the hoopla of Venice/Telluride/TIFF and so did one other film, Meryl Streep's "The Iron Lady."

Watch: Extended Trailer For David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Looks Pretty Damn Good

Is it just us, or are trailers getting shorter? Obviously, there have always been brief teasers around, but even the final clips rarely seem to top out over two minutes these days, happy to tantalize audiences with money shots and the "Inception" fart-trombone noise -- the days of old, with four-five minute trailers, sometimes even introduced by the cast or director themselves (like this all-time favourite of ours) seemingly long gone. Of course, you can rely on David Fincher to buck that trend.

'Ghostbusters' Returns To Theaters For A 3 Night Stand In October

Everywhere you look nostalgia seems to be big these days (please see every indie band that broke up in the '90s reuniting), and this was abundantly clear this past weekend when "The Lion King" roared back into theaters taking the number one slot. There are two ways to look at that: it's either a depressing sign that audiences would rather flock to the familiar than take a chance on something new or maybe the fresh movies being served up just aren't worth those hard earned dollars. We'll put that debate aside, but you can bet Hollywood is licking its chops to see what other movies they can dig up from the vaults and make premium bucks off of. And that's where Sony comes in, as they will be unleashing "Ghostbusters" back into theaters just shy of three decades since it first made its way to the multiplex.
