While we're not exactly fans of the conspiracy-minded franchises like "The Da Vinci Code" or "National Treasure" -- movies that attempt to decipher historic characters via ludicrous false histories -- the trend is not going away, and now thanks to “The Dark Knight” co-writer David Goyer, another such project is coming.

With the cinematic visionary McG having already tackled a TV adaptation (the "Charlie's Angels" movies), a weepy sports drama ("We Are Marshall"), an unnecessary sequel ("Terminator Salvation"), and right around the corner, a romantic action/comedy ("This Means War") it looks like the man with three letters for a name wants to try his hand at something different.

Weeks before the big announcement at the New Yorker Festival earlier this month, a rumor had leaked about potential details of a "Arrested Development" film, noting that it would center on “Ron Howard [as he] is making a movie about the Bluths using an A-List cast. But Dr. Tobias plays himself because nobody wants to play him in the movie. The Bluths decide to make their own movie in contention with Ron Howard’s.”

Casey Affleck To Play “The Corrupt Midget” In Whitey Bulger Biopic From Ben Affleck & Matt Damon

How ironic that the casting of Casey Affleck was buried amongst all the reports that his brother Ben would be re-teaming with Matt Damon on Warner Bros' Whitey Bulger film. The severely underrated and underutilized thespian has carved out his own brand of success in the shadow of Ben and Matt, which was exemplified by his Best Supporting Actor nom at the 2007 Oscars for his performance as the titular Robert Ford in Andrew Dominik's 'The Assassination Of Jesse James.'

'Game Of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke Circling Female LeadThanks to "Leon" director Luc Besson, the French have proved in recent years that they're able to produce English-language action-movies just as slam-bang and stupid as anything that Hollywood can come up with. Kicking off with the Jet Li vehicle "Kiss of the Dragon" and the Jason Statham series "The Transporter," Besson and co. have nailed the art of making a cheap, quick actioner, chucking in a few B-list American names, financing it through pre-sales, and making a tidy sum of money, helping to launch the careers of directors Louis Leterrier and Pierre Morel, and putting Liam Neeson firmly on the A-list with international smash "Taken."

You could throw a stone in Hollywood right now and hit a Navy SEAL. Not that you'd want to, we imagine -- a bullet would go between your eyes before the rock hit the ground. But the execution of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden at the hand of SEAL Team 6 has made the Navy badasses the go-to choice of Hollywood leads all of a sudden, with "Call of Duty"-esque propaganda movie "Act of Valor" hitting in February, with Kathryn Bigelow's story of the figures who tracked down Bin Laden eyeing a release at the end of next year.

In case it hasn't been made apparent by the recent cover story for Vogue and the Jean-Baptiste Mondino photo spread for Le Monde, you're going to be seeing a lot more of Rooney Mara in the coming weeks and months as "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" begins to roll out worldwide. And with the studio looking at the film to kickstart a franchise, both movie moguls and tastemakers see a potential style icon in the making, and the Telegraph reports that H&M are preparing to launch an entire fashion line inspired by "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."

A bit of an acting substitution here for a gestating indie-flick with John Cusack now replacing original star/producer Ethan Hawke as the lead in Kasper Barfoed's upcoming action-thriller "The Numbers Station," which also stars Malin Akerman. Hawke joined the project last fall when it was gearing up for early 2011 shoot, but that didn't come to pass. But with Cusack now on board, things are beginning to movie again.

Producer Brian Grazer and his awesome hair, has been very chatty talking to press during rounds for next week's "Tower Heist." Over the weekend he shared with us that the three-film, two-television series mega-adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series -- which was dropped by Universal over the summer -- was still moving ahead thanks to a significant budget reduction between $40-50 million. And while there's still no word if another studio will pick up the reins on the project, one of the best homes for adventurous programming on the small screen is apparently throwing their hat in the ring to be a part of super sized franchise.
