Well, "The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence)" crawls its way into theaters today, filling any desire you have for a gruesome ass-to-mouth medical experiment movie. Whatever you may think about director Tom Six, you have to admit, no one else is making movies like his. Thank God.

Robert Zemeckis Turning 'Charles Fort' Into Period Occult Adventure Picture

Robert Zemeckis hasn't had a particularly good year. The veteran director of "Back to the Future" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" finally hit a performance capture wall when "Mars Needs Moms," the animated Disney feature from his Imagemovers company, became one of the biggest money-losers of the year, taking under $40 million worldwide on a $150 million budget. It caused the end of the deal between the Mouse House and Imagemovers, and the (blessed) cancellation of his planned remake of Beatles pic "Yellow Submarine."

Watch: Trailer For 'The Raven' Is Basically A Pulpy, Period Version Of 'Se7en'

The period-based serial killer movie is a rare beast, one that has produced more notable misses in recent memory ("From Hell") than outright successes, but "The Raven" looks like it could be the pulpy good fun that we've been missing. Boasting an inventive concept, the first trailer for the film doesn't promise Oscars, but does indicate a juicy, bloody procedural with some complex kills that would make Kevin Spacey's character from "Se7en" proud.

As the filmmakers get everything in place to start shooting soon, it looks like Sam Mendes is nailing down the final pieces of his cast for "James Bond 23" or as it will probably be called "Skyfall."

When our own Oli Lyttleton saw "Shame" in Venice he declared Michael Fassbender's performance a "tour-de-force." When this writer caught up with it at TIFF, I couldn't help but agree and with the rest of the Playlist staffers screening it today at NYFF, one of them said that "Fassbender's performance is easily the strongest male performance of the year." Yes, he's that good in Steve McQueen's "Shame" but the question now to be answered is how the Academy will respond.

Can you tell the marketing campaign for "The Avengers" is heating up? Just like those pics from Tarsem's Snow White movie that landed earlier today, Marvel has been handing out pics to a variety of outlets and now a few more have cropped up. Nothing earth shattering really -- new looks at Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) -- but also a set photo that seems to reveal “How I Met Your Mother” star Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill.

So is the timing on this coincidence or bad luck? Depends on which side of the fence you're on, but the question is, after watching this new trailer for "Tower Heist," do you think it's worth forking over $59.99 to watch it at home a few weeks after it hits theaters? Yeah, probably not.

NYFF ’11 Review: ‘Paradise Lost 3’ Is Utterly Compelling, But Still Ethically Messy At Times

Few movies have a conclusion as out-of-nowhere, compelling and yet strange as the one featured in "Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory." What makes this finale even more exceptional is the fact that the film is a documentary and that this unexpected coda wasn't dreamed up inside the head of an imaginative screenwriter, but a surprise twist that occurred in these dramatic real life events.
