After Von Trier's outrageous and divisive "Antichrist," when the director announced he would make an ambitious psychological disaster film about the end of the world, it seemed like a logical (and awesome) next step. And one we are greatly looking forward to seeing. Well, Magnolia Pictures have quickly snapped up the North American rights to "Melancholia" and if you've been following the progress of the film, you know it's going to be a doozy.

Todd Bridges Receives KnighthoodHopefully everyone has heard The Black Keys latest album Brothers by now. Released last May, the sixth album from this rock duo was something of a breakthrough for them, appearing on countless year end lists as well as in countless commercials. (Their participation in “The Sell-Out-Off” on The Colbert Report with Vampire Weekend was a pretty hilarious way to acknowledge their omnipresence last year.) But despite their straightforward music the Keys have proven themselves to be quite playful when it comes to making music videos. Their latest, for “Howlin’ For You” is no exception.

Wow, where was this during the Super Bowl? In this new 90 second spot for Jim Beam, character actor Willem Dafoe stars as a dozen or so different versions of himself in this “Being John Malkovich”-style clip. The campaign, about making “bold choices,” illustrates the different types of lives one might lead depending on those decisions and Dafoe stars as each of these versions. Appearing as a circus acrobat, fashion designer, skinhead, and sumo wrestler, it has to be seen to be believed. It sounds silly (and it is), but it’s also surprisingly affecting. We’re not sure what this has to do with liquor but it’s really an impressive spot.

Actress Also Loosely Attached To The Child Kidnapping Drama 'Snatch Back'The gestating transgendered drama "The Danish Girl," with Nicole Kidman has had several false starts since it was announced in September 2009. Originally, Tomas Alfredson, the filmmaker behind the lauded Swedish vampire drama, "Let The Right One In," was going to make the picture his English-language directorial debut with Kidman and Charlize Theron in the lead roles. But for one reason or another, talent kept dropping out of the picture. First Theron bowed out, only to be replaced with Gwyneth Paltrow. Then Alfredson left to direct "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," evidently exiting the project after being refused more time to develop the script written by Lucinda Coxon. Another Swede, Lasse Hallström took over the directing reins last year and then, delaying things even further, Paltrow exited the project in April of 2010.

Cast Already Includes Jeremy Renner & Jennifer GarnerThe European Film Market in Berlin is in full swing this weekend and film deals are happening left, right and center. A lot of times these attachments and or pre-attachments are made to attract and or entice financiers and don't always come to fruition, but we'll give this one the benefit of the doubt.

Mia Wasikowska Also ConfirmedEarlier this year, a screenplay by Ted Foulke (Wentworth Miller’s sobriquet) called "Stoker" made the rounds and started gaining buzz. It became a hot property and Scott Free Productions quickly snatched up the film that’s now set up at Fox Searchlight. "Oldboy" helmer Park Chan-Wook became attached to direct and early casting rumors had Carey Mulligan, Mia Wasikowska and Jodie Foster in talks for roles, but it looks like the film is getting two massive heavyweights on board as well.

Variety is reporting that the world will be graced with another vampire film titled "Innocence," based on the book of the same name by Jane Mendelsohn. Right now Abigail Breslin and Julianne Moore are attached to star in the story about a grieving teenage girl who discovers that her private school is home to a nest of vampires. Though roles haven't been confirmed, Breslin will most likely be playing main character Beckett, with Moore playing the school nurse that embeds herself in Beckett's life by marrying her father. The film will be directed by Hilary Brougher, a widely unknown female director who last directed "Stephanie Daley" with Tilda Swinton and Amber Tamblyn.
