Hey y'all! How 'bout those "Hunger Games," huh? Obviously, everyone and their mom went last weekend to the child murder games, and we'll see if it has legs to keep going (we think it does), so if you have to catch up on that one, it is in theaters this weekend! If you already saw it, never fear, there are still creepy kid movies to be found in "Bully" and "Womb" (and "Mirror Mirror" does that count?) Fun! And if not, blockbuster season is officially open with "Wrath of the Titans." CGI-y! And for a nice change of pace, another entry in the classic hockey comedy canon, "Goon" hits U.S. theaters this weekend too. Won't you hit the ice with us?

There are a lot of things we want to know about Nicolas Winding Refn's "Only God Forgives," and we'll get to that movie in a moment, but first we need to address the image above. The picture has been one that has captivated and amused the Playlist staff if only because we have no idea what on Earth Refn is wearing around his waist or why. Well, mystery solved. "I like to wear that thing on set. It is as if it helps keep my energy," he recently told Liberation. In fact, it's a look he wears everyday to the set, and his wife reveals that the crew on her husband's last movie paid their respects to the director saying, "On Halloween, on the set of 'Drive,' the 75 people on the team all wore white shirts, glasses and a blanket around their waist. It was hilarious."

Guessing who Marvel are going to pick to direct their movies is increasingly becoming a fool's errand. We could see why Jon Favreau and Louis Leterrier were picked to helm "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." But since that opening salvo, they've mostly shied away from A-list names and those experienced with action, with names like Kenneth Branagh, Joss Whedon and Shane Black being picked out to helm "Thor," "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3."

Director Ken Loach has always strived for realism in his socially-conscious films, so it's no surprise that his next project is a documentary about socialism. Enjoying the most prolific decade of his long career, the 75-year-old director's last film, the 2010 drama-thriller "Route Irish," examined the corruption of private contractors working in Iraq, while his foray into documentary, titled "Spirit of '45," will be an even broader affair — focusing on the changes to the social and political landscape of Britain immediately following the end of World War II.

Review: HBO's Fantasy Epic 'Game Of Thrones' Returns For A Satisfying Sophomore Season

Ever since HBO changed the landscape of television dramas back in the late 90s, a dozen other networks have stepped up to try to follow in their footsteps with their own challenging, original programming. So how does the pay cable network stay ahead of the pack? By taking risks that no other network can afford to take (literally). Many of the recent dramas in their stable have come from showrunners who have shepherded previous hits -- “Luck” from “Deadwood” creator David Milch; “True Blood” from “Six Feet Under” creator Alan Ball; “Boardwalk Empire” from “The Sopranos” vet Terrence Winter; “Treme” from “The Wire” creator David Simon -- but their medieval epic “Game of Thrones” is a beast all its own. Adapted from George R. R. Martin’s popular fantasy series “A Song of Ice And Fire” by novelist D.B. Weiss and writer/screenwriter David Benioff (“25th Hour,” “Troy”), the series aims to break up each massive 800+ page book into a 10 episode season. Though sci-fi, action and even horror have made their way to the small screen, fantasy has rarely been attempted and putting the series in the hands of two writers who had no television experience was, putting it lightly, a risky move.

'Zodiac' & 'Amazing Spider-Man' Scribe James Vanderbilt To Rewrite 'Robocop'; Sells Action Spec 'White House Down' To Sony

The first films of screenwriter James Vanderbilt's career were not exactly indicators of great work to come. Killer tooth fairy horror "Darkness Calls?" Botched "Rashomon" riff "Basic"? Dwayne Johnson actioner "The Rundown"? (Which is actually good fun, but not exactly high art). Certainly none suggested that one of the great screenplays of the century so far would come from Vanderbilt, but that's exactly what his script for David Fincher's "Zodiac" is, and it's helped to make him one of the most in-demand writers around.

Sofia Coppola has always managed to put together impressive casts for her movies, and her latest, the currently-in-production "The Bling Ring," is no exception. After casting Emma Watson, Leslie Mann and, apparently, frequent collaborator Kirsten Dunst (if recent set photos are indeed evidence of her participation), Coppola has brought in an award-winning actress for her latest addition: two-time Gold Raspberry winner Paris Hilton ("The Hottie and the Nottie," "Repo! The Genetic Opera").

Woody Allen is like a little neurotic, Jewish Energizer bunny. With "To Rome With Love" in the bag and set for release this summer, his calendar is no less full, with a starring role in John Turturro's "Fading Gigolo" around the corner, and a Broadway bound "Bullets Over Broadway" in the works. And though his next film isn't slated to shoot until early 2013, Allen is apparently already eyeballing a cast.
