Well, we always knew that "The End Of The World," the newly titled feature adaptation of "Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse" was going to be swarming with cameos, but this may be the biggest, non-Apatow gang member to join the flick (outside of Rihanna, who James Franco recently tipped).

It would seem with the glut of superhero movies it's becoming increasingly challenging to tell the story of someone possessing great powers and learning how to deal with them in a fresh and original way, but writer Max Landis and director Josh Trank did just that with "Chronicle." The duo imbued the familiar story of teenagers acquiring some extraordinary skills and pitched it against the pain of adolescene with stakes that weren't rooted in some kind of grand plot against the world (indeed, there was no real villain) but instead in the emotional turmoil of the characters. And thrown against some incredibly exciting set pieces, it was definitely one of the most fun times we've had at the movies so far this year.

If at first you do not mega-succeed, try, try again. This is of course the studio motto and it's changing whether you bomb or not; see the post-Nolan "Batman" films that will eventually happen and the upcoming "Amazing Spider-Man" reboot series. But in the meantime, many studios are concentrating on their failures. Sony just re-tried (and failed) with the "Ghost Rider" series, 20th Century Fox is attempting to get the "Fantastic Four" series back on track, Marvel might try "The Hulk" again (third time's the charm), and Fox once again is also hoping to start their "Daredevil" series over again (Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, and director Mark Steven Johnson buried the first one in the ground rather quickly; hey, at least the stars got a family out ot it).

Summer movie season is here which also means rampant cross promotion crammed down as many unlikely avenues as possible. "Prometheus" is already teaming randomly with Verizon, "Battleship" has about a zillion tie-ins including one with Coca-Cola and now "Men In Black 3" is flexing its marketing muscle.

There are few actresses who march to the beat of their own drum in the way that Isabelle Huppert does. This year alone finds her in three wildly different movies, from a trio of auteur filmmakers, including Brillante Mendoza's "Captive," which premiered in Berlin and a duo of pics unspooling at the Cannes Film Festival: Michael Haneke's "Amour" and Hong Sang-Soo's "In Another Country." And now, just like that, she's again confounding expectations, taking a role in her first Hollywood project since 2004's David O. Russell's "I Heart Huckabees" (or if you want to be technical about it, since an appearance on "Law & Order: SVU" in 2010).

Haters gonna hate, but Lena Dunham will have the final word as her excellent HBO series "Girls" as well as Armando Iannucci's "Veep" have both been renewed for a second season. And the numbers don't lie.

It seems we're entering a bit of a renaissance in terms of movies about filmmakers. One could easily argue that Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" was a biopic of Georges Melies and there are already two Alfred Hitchcock centered flicks on the way: "The Girl" and "Hitchcock." And just this morning, the Cannes Film Festival added the biopic "Renoir" the lineup in the south of France. And now, another giant filmmaker is getting the big screen treatment with an intriguing cast lining up.

Of the many characters he's played over the years, Steve Coogan's Alan Patridge remains the most beloved. The consistently lame, earnestly insecure and narcissitic talk show host has spawned two radio series, three TV stints, a book and more recently the new webseries "Mid Morning Matters." Since last year, Coogan has been promising that the anticipated Alan Partridge feature film would shoot in 2012 and it looks like the pieces are coming together for that to happen.
