So remember last week when Fox Searchlight picked up Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and dropped the official synopsis, along with a staggering list of cast members? It seems they left one out: Lea Seydoux.

A few weeks ago, we took out our crystal ball and speculated on what movies might be appearing at the Cannes Film Festival when it kicks off in about six weeks or so. We made some educated guesses, ruled some other movies out and tossed some ideas around as we wait for the official announcement from organizers later this month. Well, it appears a bit of a clearer picture is emerging -- sort of -- as a handful of titles have been ruled out.

After directing his sophomore feature, the 2005 critically-acclaimed globe-trotting thriller “Syriana,” “Traffic” writer Stephen Gaghan has had a rough go of getting a new project started. And while it seems that he’s finally gearing up to shoot his follow-up, the Oscar-winning screenwriter is also planning a stop on the small screen.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Jay-Z’s role in the music of Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” was clarified. He’s the Soundtrack Executive Producer, and word is starting trickle out on who Hov is bringing with him for the soundtrack of Luhrmann’s flashy adaptation. Hint: He put a ring on it.

Here's your unlikely actor/director and musician pairing for the day: Steve Buscemi and Vampire Weekend. If you believe a recent tweet from the band, Buscemi is a distant cousin of the bassist Chris Baio (who is actually related Scott Baio) but mostly, they were just excited to team up with with actor for some "showbiz synergy." Well, they have.

Right now, David Fincher appears to be at a bit of a crossroads in terms of what he'll do next. Obviously, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" sequels are still sorting out their issues before they can get made, but over the past couple of months, the director has taken good hard looks at both the thriller "Gone Girl" -- recently touted as the most likely candidate for his next movie -- and the long-developing "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo" at Disney for his upcoming projects. And the latter has just received twenty million or so good reasons why it might be his next film.

So, YA franchises: lucrative new trend or risky fad? Those on the side of "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" will tout the devoted following both have developed, while one only has to look at the wreckage left behind "Beautiful Creatures" and last weekend's "The Host" to see that nothing is a guarantee. So hoping to come out a little bit better is "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones," which of course is based on a best-selling series of books. But will the fans show up? More importantly, will everyone else?

So April Fools' Day is (thankfully) nearing an end and it looks like Bryan Singer and the folks behind "This Is The End" win the day. The former fooled Variety with a joke tweet about Lady Gaga playing Dazzler in "X-Men: Days Of Future Past," while the latter dropped a joke teaser for "Pineapple Express 2" masquerading as a quick teaser for the apocalypse comedy. Well, they've decided to finish the day with a brand new red band trailer, and yeah, this looks like it'll be something of a cameo filled blast.

Rian Johnson
American writer/director Rian Johnson has never repeated himself. His debut, "Brick," is a film noir-y crime drama that featured one of the early turning-point Joseph Gordon-Levitt performances that proved the young actor was much more than just a TV child star trying to break into movies. His sophomore effort, "The Brothers Bloom," was a more whimsical con-man film that had flourishes of controlled Wes Anderson-like camera moves, and his third film, of course, was last year's sci-fi time-travel film, "Looper," starring Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis.

She's only sixteen, but the rise of Chloe Moretz has been nothing short of remarkable. It's hard to believe it was only four years ago that she appeared as the kid sister in "(500) Days Of Summer." This year she's got big movies on the way, with the sequel "Kick-Ass 2" (which recently dropped a trailer just focused on her character) and horror remake "Carrie" (new trailer coming this week). And now it looks like she's lining up a drama based on a book by one of the hottest authors of the moment.
