Terrence Malick's 'Knight Of Cups' Gets New, Appropriately Vague Logline

It would seem that as Terrence Malick has increased his workflow, some of the goodwill he's had for decades has slightly eroded. The director's latest effort "To The Wonder" recently played both Venice and TIFF where it mostly received unenthusiastic notices, with many tiring of his let's-go-explore-the-wheatfields style. And it's not a surprise it's still without a U.S. distribution deal. As for us, our man in Venice dug the film and this writer saw it in Toronto and, though it's problematic, found much to digest in the movie that, to the viewer willing to look past the surface, asks a lot of big questions. In particular, how we can share or experience love in a world abandoned by God. Weighty stuff. But anyway, Malick is already on to his next two films, and a very small morsel of info concerning "Knight Of Cups" has emerged.

While everyone else dishes out movies based on true events, literary classics and aim for that awards season boullion, RZA will instead be serving up blood and blades in equal doses with this directorial debut "The Man With The Iron Fists." There will be few movies this fall offering up such unabashed, popcorn-ready entertainment, but a kung fu flick starring the rapper, Lucy Liu and Russell Crowe? Yeah, we're in.

We can’t figure out whether to be excited or not about “Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall.” Sure the first film was all kinds of fun, and some of the new casting additions are pretty exciting -- most notably Jim Carrey. But on the other hand, there’s no Matthew Vaughn this time, and by all accounts Mark Millar’s comic wasn’t that great this time and it sounds as if it was going to need a lot of changes made to it before it could work on the big screen.

When a movie is getting most of its buzz because it has a script written by Ethan and Joel Coen there are certain...expectations. But if this first footage of the upcoming "Gambit" is anything to go by, there is a difference between a movie written by the Coens and a movie written and directed by the Coens.

Did you spend any amount of time with original 8-bit Nintendo or Sega Master System? Do you still have up-up-down-down "Contra"-style codes memorized in your brain? Does the sight of a blue hedgehog spinning and jumping wildly through the air still get your pulse rate up? Well, this fall, the movie might be coming that's just for you as Disney will unveil their video game world set "Wreck-It-Ralph" and it looks like it's going to be both a dazzling piece of eye candy and actually entertaining (sorry, "Tron: Legacy").

"Why do you still live in the house your parents got killed in?" Jennifer Lawrence asks actor Max Thieriot in this music video clip from "House At The End Of The Street." Oh you, know, it's just your average sweet acoustic ballad/love song from a horror film where everyone gets murdered real good.

It looks like Kevin Costner isn't the only one from this summer's miniseries hit "Hatfields & McCoys" who is going to get a nice career bump. His co-star Bill Paxton is now lining up his own big budget role, alongside none other than Tom Cruise.

While he isn't berating inanimate objects, Clint Eastwood makes movies, and this Friday he'll take his cantankerous self to the baseball diamond in "Trouble With The Curve" (review here). It's another rare acting outing for the man who has mostly spent the last little while behind the camera, but that doesn't mean he still isn't in demand. It was just last month that producer Avi Lerner boasted that he had Nic Cage on board for "The Expendables 3" with plans to approach some new names like Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford and yes, Eastwood. Well, there's one phone call that Lerner can probably take off his list.

We have to admit, given how long this movie has been kicking around in development, we've been wary of any news. Indeed, the last we heard anything about the movie was in the spring when Hugh Jackman -- who was originally attached over two years ago when Antoine Fuqua was going to direct  -- came back on board, with "Incendies" helmer Denis Villeneuve behind the camara with promises of a November 2013 release. And then nothing. But it looks like the wheels are in motion as another talent has come on board.

Well, when he's not berating Israeli journalists and accusing them of draft dodging, Peter Berg seems to be a fan of their television programs as the "Friday Night Lights" creative is headed back to the small screen for the curiously titled "M.I.C.E."
